Thanks very much for mentioning our Hype Cycle book Dr. Veletsianos. Jackie Fenn, myself and several other colleagues are nowadays in an 'ETT' group at Gartner - standing for Emerging Trends and Technologies. The trends focus is becoming more important. We have found that looking at technologies in isolation (e.g. 'WiMAX') is only one part of the story. Researching aggregated technology concepts and trends (such as 'mobility', 'web 2.0', 'green IT') is equally important in our advisory research to senior IT decision makers. There are just so many emerging techs today - it seems sensible to work at an aggregated level when trying to compare and contrast the value they bring and its timing.
